Why the people in the background have the X Factor

by Caroline Smailes on September 6, 2009

Last night’s X Factor show was all about the youngsters, but I found myself focusing on the reactions of those around the young stars, the people they’d brought along to support them.

Lucie Jones had such an innocence about her. Her parents’ reactions ‘did it’ for me, touched something inside of me that made me cry. They looked so proud of their little girl. Lloyd Daniels’ dad made me smile. And hearing Jade Fubara’s friends talk of her absolute talent warmed me.

To have people believe in you, to have people who truly wish you success and happiness, I think that’s what makes people fly towards their dreams. It’s that knowing that you have people there to fall back on, when or if it all goes wrong. I am so lucky, I have that too, I have that support. It makes all those negative voices, those who are full of doom and gloom, well it makes them powerless.

This week, I’ve been chasing my own dreams. I’m considerably older than those youngsters from the show last night but still I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and messages I’ve received this week. I’m going to blog all the details tomorrow or Tuesday, but in brief:

I’m going to be published again!

Caro, you deserve all your moments in the lime-light, my sweet…

Never mind the X Factor - My bitter tone is because I had sky plus’d it and then my son decided to cancel the recording…

What shall I do, with only your snapshot of Simon to tide me over??! Bonne chance, ma belle! x

So, this is a surprise!?, yes great news but not a surprise… one of us always believed it would happen as wishes are mighty, powerful and never doubted to work in this household… just takes a moment:0) Let yourself believe and Tinkerbell will always be very pleased.

You are going to blog all the details in briefs? Don’t tell me… It’s a series of small stories about jockeys or have you found new attire to inspire your writing.

Whatever, I know the results won’t be pants!

Congrats :-)

I’m so looking forward to the new books. Yes dreams are what it’s all about, without them I would have gone mad years ago!

Must be lots of squealing in the Smaile household at the moment, what with you and Gary both having good news on the publishing front.

So I post a squeal of delight from Brighton to you both.

Hurrah!!! Dead excited for you.
And re X-Factor, I don’t know if it’s because I’m an old fart or what but it’s seeing the parents’ pride in their singing offspring that always sets me off blubbing. *sniffle*

Clearly, we’re both old farts then! x
