Week 2: The Write Lines

by Caroline Smailes on November 14, 2009

Following on from last week’s post, tomorrow Sue Cook will be playing the second part of my interview with her (I’m really really hoping that I didn’t mention the Care Bear twice, but I am in my pjs as I write this post).

Here are the details of tomorrow’s show:

This week on the Write Lines, Sue Cook and her guests look at the variety of things a writer can choose to write – fiction or non fiction? Biography or Autobiography? Short stories? Childrens’ fiction? A play for stage or screen maybe…

Along with Jacq Burns our guests are:

Wendy Oberman, whose latest radio play is about to be aired on Radio 4, tells us how she set about adapting Lady Chatterley’s Lover for Ken Russell’s film for the BBC. She was told she could have carte blanche except for anything to do with anal sex. She did as she was told but Ken Russell had the last laugh by choosing as his soundtrack for the relevant scene… Uranus from Holst’s Planet Suite!

Wendy also writes successfully for the internet. She has taken her recent Radio 4 series ‘Conversations with my Bailiff’ about Madelaine Greene, her financial problems and her attentive bailiff Barry and turned it into a blog diary, which has been attracting increasing attention in the media.

And Andrew Crofts lets us into the secret world of the ghost writer- he’s ghosted more than 80 books, many of which have made the best sellers lists.

And how can you make a living at writing? Having written the invaluable ‘Freelance Writer’s Handbook’, Andrew knows all about that as well. We tell you how can work on that novel you’ve always wanted to write and keep body and soul together while you do it.

You can tweet (@the WriteLines) any questions, comments or experiences of your own to the experts in the studio.

So do join Sue Cook and guests, tomorrow 9 till 10 (and every Sunday evening for the rest of November) on BBC Radio Oxford 95.2 fm.
