Something for the weekend: Giving away Superboot, the bum toning boots from Fitflop

by Caroline Smailes on March 3, 2011

As some of you know, I’ve been facing up to health issues and looking to alter my lifestyle. As a result, for the last 7 weeks I have been guided by The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss (more on that another time).

Part of this lifestyle change involved increased exercise and Oscar has benefited. Walking him is not always a delight, as he pulls and the walk soon becomes me doing a ridiculous ‘power’ walk. But, for the last few weeks I’ve been wearing Fitflop bum toning boots, a Short Leather Superboot to be precise, and I think they’re very fabulous.

For those not in the know, Fitflop footwear ‘works your body while you walk’. And, it honestly does! The changes in my eating have altered my energy levels and weight, but my Fitflop Superboots have been focusing on toning and posture. I can already see clear results in my problem areas. (Fear not, I promise not to post photos!)

How does it work? Well these magic boots have the microwobbleboard midsole that made FitFlop sandals famous (I am a bit in love with these red sandals). Basically, the Superboot helps activate the muscles in your thighs, calves and bum with every step. But, clearly, there is science involved:

FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. Fitflop microwobbleboard:

  • increases leg and bottom muscle activity (up to 30%). (So you feel less ache in your hips and knees)
  • absorbs more shock than a normal shoe (up to 22%)
  • helps realign ground force reaction closer to your joints
  • delivers up to 16% more hamstring activation
  • reduces back stress

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical at first. I’d seen very mixed reviews about some of the other trainer-brands on twitter, but lots of people were raving about Fitflop sandals. Clearly it’s still a little too cold for me to indulge in sandals (and I’m a Geordie, so we’re talking proper cold!). But when I received the boots I was thrilled, they are perfect casual boots for walking Oscar and school runs.

Getting used to the boots was easy. It took my feet a couple of wears before they adjusted to the Superboot. My heels reacted on the first wear, but I think that was to do with how I was positioning them. Within 2 days they were a perfect fit and have been since. The Superboots are casual, extremely comfortable, look ace with jeans and I find myself walking ‘the long way around’ when I’m wearing them (like they encourage me to try that little bit harder).

After 3 weeks of wearing them (and walking in them) at least one hour a day, I can see clear changes in my shape. And, I must also add that I am NOT one for diet fads or gimmicks, I never have been. If something didn’t work then I’d not be mentioning it on my blog, but I really am toning and in all the right places (and at my age toning in the right places is somewhat miraculous!). I still have a long way to go, but I am moving in the right direction.

Anyway, I am UTTERLY thrilled that I have 2 pairs of the Short Suede Superboot to give away to you, my dear friends. The RRP is around £100 a pair. The pictures of them can be seen in this post - they are both size 6, one pair is in taupe and the other pair in amethyst. They are a pull- on style for casual or workday wear.

To enter this fabulous Fitflop give away, simply leave a comment saying which colour you’d like to win. Enter to win ‘taupe’, ‘amethyst’ or ‘both’ by 3pm (GMT) March 8, then I’ll pop all names into two mugs (one to win amethyst, the other to win taupe) and ask a small child to select 2 winners. Apologies, but this competition is UK only as I’m posting out the boots to the winners. And, again, the only size I have is a size 6.

I too have had to come to terms with some health issues lately. I’m told these boots can make a huge difference when you have pain walking so I’d love to try a pair. I’d be grateful for any colour, but ameythst sounds terrific and would wind my teenage daughter up wonderfully ;)

I’d be happy with either pair, please. Doesn’t matter what colour they are, as long as they do something about the shape of my bottom, tee hee!

What wonderful boots! I would love to try them as have committed to walk the kids to school and back every day (4 miles!) in a bid to get fit, help the environment and blow the cobwebs away. Are they comfortable to wear? I had MBT’s once and they were painful!

Please could you put me in the draw for either Taupe or Amethyst as I would be so grateful to recieve either!

Thank you so much, I have also tweeted for you!

The chance of new boots in any colour is a sure way to pull me out of the woodwork.
And the promise of new body is obviously an added bonus. So I will be greedy and say both please.
Thank you.
