LiveRead

by Caroline Smailes on February 22, 2010

Today I went over to Liverpool Daily Post’s offices to be filmed reading a chapter from Like Bees to Honey.**

This film (of me hopefully not sounding like a Muppet) will be shown as part of their LiveRead online Literary Festival.

I’m very much thrilled to have been asked to take part in LiveRead. Not only is it set to be the first of its kind, the first online literary festival to be staged by a regional newspaper, but also the programme of events will showcase the vibrant writing scene that is part of Merseyside. Running by the Daily Post from March 15-19, the festival will be a celebration of Liverpool writers and writing – both amateur and professional.

The LiveRead video of me reading an excerpt from Like Bees to Honey will be broadcast on Tuesday March 16 and available worldwide (eek!).

For further details and information on how to get involved go to the Liverpool Daily Post website or you can follow LiveRead on twitter (@Live_Read).

(* I read chapter 4, the one that begins: I first met Jesus in Liverpool)

(** 2 takes, one smirk and one made-up word, in case you were wondering)

Sounds thoroughly fantastic. Love Liverpool, love literature, and imagine I’ll love ‘Like Bees to Honey’. And with a splattering of Scouse Jesus too. Wish I’d met him when I was studying in Liverpool. He could have performed miracles for me and got me out of my overdraft, got me that First that eluded me (damn that modernist literature module), and given me the common sense to get rid of the waste of space boyfriend I had. Oh well…

Looking forward to reading it and to seeing the film with Johnny Depp!

The scariest thing about your fabulous comment is that I could have written it! You are me and I am you! We are the same (think a slice of tea and a cup or tea AND Sodastreams for additional evidence) Oh, so, scary! :) x

Ah yes. The sodastream and Worzel…who could therefore argue that we are not one and the same person?! And if they are still in doubt they should see that my story (and I swear I didn’t have clue when I submitted to Tonto that you were writing something entitled Like Bees to Honey) was entitled ‘Crazy Bees’. A shared interest in bees too!

Funnily enough my interest in bees came from my first every English Language class at Liverpool University when we learnt about their complex communication system which I found fascinating…and how it’s used so they can inform each other (personification of bees sorry!) of how far away honey is and how much there is. It’s all bum wiggling really…

Geek - me?! Absolutely.

Professor* Kelly endeth their lesson here…(sorry to all I have sent into doze…).

*I am not really a professor - I made that bit up.

The scary thing is that I went to THAT EXACT SAME LECTURE! But clearly on a different day and year and so ‘exact’ is probably inaccurate.
But, yes, twins x

I must get my eyes tested yet again…kept reading it as Liver head with a silent H of course and wondered why you were getting in to the butchery trade. I once met God in Whitechapel but he surprised me a bit as he didn’t have a long white beard etc just a pork pie hat necktie and large hobnail boots…nothing else so a long white beard would not have gone amiss:0) Glad people are taking notice of Bees be good if they notice the author has a track record of great novels already published too.
