Introducing Oscar

by Caroline Smailes on July 29, 2009

Littlest wanted a dog. And by this I mean that Littlest asked for us to get a dog every single day for months and months. We kept saying no.

Over time, Littlest’s walls became covered in posters of dogs, she played dog games, had a basket at the bottom of her bed full of toy dogs, told us random factual information about dogs and in her recent school play Littlest wore a dog costume and she was a dog. We still kept saying no.

But 2 days ago, we went to ‘just look’ at a puppy. He was the last of a litter, the one that no one else wanted.

I’ve never ever had dogs, the responsibility has always frightened me. It’s the unknown and the fear of making a mistake. I have so much to learn and so much to try.

Because yesterday Oscar, an 8 week old Cavapoo, came to live in our house.

This is going to be one big learning adventure.

Welcome, Oscar. Great name choice. Imagine Littlest is beside herself. He’s a beautiful dog. Good luck on the adventure.

She’s very thrilled, as are all the boys too. Possbly taking the 3 children along to view the puppy was not the smartest of moves :)

Aw, he looks even smaller in this photo! ‘Littlest’ is littlest no longer! Oscar! Very good choice. It suits him.

Thank you. He’s a tiny little thing who was very nearly called Frank N Furter! (well, I thought it funny)

You are bringing up three children, you will be FINE with a l’il cavapoo! He’s totally yummy. I am totally jealous. Not least because now you get to watch The Dog Whisperer and have a reason.

Oh Cesar. *sigh*

OOOOOOh, I’ve never seen the Dog Whisperer before… it’s a whole new world (sung a la Disney)

Oh I can’t believe I forgot to tell you about Cesar, you’ll love him. (Must be all that talk of pee and poo and 4am ‘rain calls’). He is a beauty and he has certainly found his place x

What a beauty! Really happy for you all.

When my wife was a “littlest” her parents wouldn’t let her have a dog. She used to take an empty lead for a drag…

Oh I think your wife is very lovely. So glad she has doggies to love now!

“the one that no one else wanted.”

Awww! That tugs at the old heart strings! If I had my way, every time I hear/read that sentence my house would be over run with all sorts of animals!

He’s adorable! You’re all going to have a blast learning together!

I feel the same. Now I am never ever to look at another animal or baby again!

Oh Caroline, he’s beautiful… It IS very exciting. You’ll have lots to learn but so will the children and that’s so good for them. I am very jealous.

What a beautiful puppy! I have a feeling it is the beginning of a love affair for you.
Funny how your daughter broke you down; has she taken lessons on torture by any chance?

Tell DB that I say that you have to have a puppy. You know that he always takes notice of what I say…

Oscar is gorgeous. What fun you’ll have with that ball of cuteness around! We’ve been talking about getting a puppy recently as well. We decided against it at the moment. With two small children, my studying, N’s long hours, that it wouldn’t be the best time right now. But that day will come up soon enough, until then be sure to post lots of pictures and stories about your beautiful puppy..

It’s all about timing. Littlest is 6 now, eldest will be 12 in November and so we have more free time and more helpers at home. And even though that’s all true, it’s still tiring and a bit hard. I’ll be sure to post about his progress :)

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! He’s Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! And Oscar is such a dignified and distinguished. I shall call him Sir Oscar. It sounds very posh, doesn’t it?

Congrats on your new bundle of joy. I always feel that the last in the litter is the most special. All they need is a little love. :)

Yay for you!

Caroline,

Two things came to mind when I read this post. First, it’s obvious your daughter believes in the law of attraction. She definitely set things up for the Universe (and you) to grant her desire:~)

The second thing is welcome to the world of total unconditional love. Dogs are masters at it. I’ve had them all my life and I can’t tell how many times they’ve saved my soul, as well as my life (literally). Enjoy:~)
