And my predictions for the X Factor final are…

by Caroline Smailes on October 11, 2009

I wasn’t going to comment on last night’s X Factor live show, but what was Dannii Minogue playing at? Is this the sister of gay-icon Kylie? Because what, no, really, what did Danyl Johnson’s performance have to do with his sexuality? I am lost for words. I think Danyl was amazing, a true talent and not at all arrogant. Dannii ended up looking rather ridiculous.

(Even if you don’t watch the show, you can click here to see Danyl’s fabulous performance and Dannii’s outrageous comments and Simon’s loveliness)

And, moving on swiftly (for fear of my angry ranting)…

As the live shows have just begun I’ll offer my predictions for the final 3: Stacey Soloman, Joe McElderry, Danyl Johnson and my wild-card would be Miss Frank.

So, if you watch the show, who are your top 3 predictions for the final (and yes, you can have a wild-card too)? We can come back to this very post and see who is (spooky) right just before the final show. Ooooh, the excitement…

Right then. *rolls up sleeves in most businesslike fashion*
Mine would be…um…Lucie Jones, Joe McElderry and Stacey Solomon. My wildcard has to be Danyl, because he was utterly awesone last night but I think he might lack a little versatility. And also because I didn’t want to be a copy-cat and say the same as you.

PS Dannii Minogue - there’s a line, y’know.

So we’ll both be either perfectly right or very wrong. I may regret not throwing Jamie Afro into the mix… ooooh it’s a hard decision! x

I kept turning back and forth from the show, so only really saw Lucie Jones, Joe McElderry and Danyl, all of whom were impressive, but I couldn’t believe Dannii’s nastiness and was fuming. I thought Danyl was incredible, and I can’t see what his sexuality has to do with the show, whatever it is.

Dannii looked completely ridiculous and should be taken down a peg or two by the producers for that. She mentioned the dreaded sleaze tabloid reports, she has a short term memory. The psychological games have gone too far, and I was a Dannii fan, I just thought last night showed unprovoked nastiness to which Danyl was visibly shaken.

There my rant!

Now then, predictions. I’d have to go with Olly, Stacey and Lloyd, the wild card Miss Frank!

But I also thought it was ridiculous that Project A were overlooked as well as TreyC Cohen and the other Daniel (he from One True Voice)

Shocking mistake!

I think we can all agree Dannii was a bitch. However, I cannot agree with your predictions - we HAVE to have Ollie and Stacey in the final because ESSEX RULES. (Sorry, I am now tucking my white stilettos away in the wardrobe…)

Based on last night I think I agree with your top three, but am torn between Jamie Afro and Lucie Jones for the wildcard.

Dannii was just a bitch, it’ll backfire…

Well, according to Dannii’s twitter her reference was a joke and to an interview that Danyl had done. If that’s the case then she needs to think carefully about her joke telling skills. She’s really rather silly, beccause she should have thought before offering any comment out into the world. Us mere viewers do not share the history or the knowledge, surely she can’t be shocked that there is such a backlash? (I’m ranting again, aren’t I?)

Anyway…

Debs carr - Lucie Jones is very sweet but I still think that Stacey has a really beautiful innocence about her. I think she might win.

DJ MacDonald - Lloyd? Oh yes, the little girl vote. Hmmm, I fear I have not considered who might actually be voting!

Shanta Everington - I think Stacey is fab and Olly is very lovely, he is possibly a dark horse…

Cathy - I love Jamie Afro, just didn’t think he was as good as he could be last night.

We’re thinking Dagenham Stace, Danyl and … um… Lucy or Joe.

On the Danni-Danyl thing, I actually think she was trying to be supportive, but completely f’cked it up. She’s a gay icon too - I once booked her for a student gay night at our Uni, when she was in the wilderness, and she was really very pro-gay-rights.

Danyl has been incredibly open about being bisexual, so she wasn’t outing him. He’s given numerous interviews in which he’s talked about it, and I think what Danni actually meant was that he should have the confidence to sing a love song which is written to a man, without changing the gender references. He altered it to be to a woman and not a man, and I think she just meant that he didn’t need to do that - that he can be himself and not think it will screw up his chances.

I think she just did it really clumsily - because I know that she’s not remotely homophobic. If anything she’s out of touch with the fact that other people might still be. I’m sure if Danyl recorded that song with the original lyrics it would be a huge hit in the gay community.

That’s my analysis :)

Oooh great question.

The person who impressed me the most last night was Joe McElderry - his performance was seamless so he’s in my top 3, definitely. I didn’t like Rachel’s song last night but I think she’s got the best voice of the girls BUT think Stacey gets into the final on the likeability factor. So that’s two. I’m a bit nervous about putting Danyl in because if he IS as cocky as they say he is that’ll turn the voting public off (can you see how much serious thought I’m giving this?). And then there’s Lucie - although something about her annoys me a tiny bit.

So - Joe, Stacey and Daryl (with Rachel as my wild card)

I think my favourites for the final three are, Jamie A, Stacey and Danyl.
I can’t even begin to understand what Danni was up to last night with her comments about Danyl… BUT It’s certainly shaping up to be a great series ;)
My only problem is the clash with Strictly.. Boo!!!

I was disgusted with Dannii’s comment. Even if it referred to some private joke, the public don’t know that and it was out of order to refer to his sexuality like that.

My favourites at the moment are Joe (who was fantastic), Miss Frank and Jamie. Danyl was really good too although I had always though him a bit cocky from his very first audition. I actually hope the twins stay in for a while, just to combat those nasty stories and comments they have had to put up with. Why are people so cruel?

That’s the thing though! The public DO know - Danyl has been giving interviews about being bisexual all week… he has said that he wants to be open about his sexuality on the show.

I’m public and I really didn’t have a clue. I don’t read newspapers so that’s possibly why? I also think a huge number of others didn’t know either, judging by Twitter reactions during the show last night. I think that you’re right about Dannii and my comment earlier about her too - she was trying to be funny but it backfired, she didn’t tell her ‘joke’ as well as she should have done and Simon’s reaction last night also showed that her ‘joke’ didn’t come over as she’d intended. As you’ve said, she did it clumsily but at least everyone knows now and Stacey will win, I’m sure. x

Stray - I so want Dagenham Stace to win. She makes me happy inside. I still think that sexuality shouldn’t be brought into judges’ comments, as it could sway some people against/for voting for the right/wrong reasons… if that makes sense? I just think she handled it all wrong and was probably planning what to say and it came out very wrong (as shown by the other judges’ reactions). Loving your analysis :)

Calistro - I liked Rachel and Jamie last week, showing how important song choice is!

Tracy - I am noting that no votes have been cast for the twins :)

Nicola Smith - We all seem to have similar choices, I just wonder how we’ll all feel if the twins win… eek!

We feel all happy inside when we see Dagenham Stace too!

I feel torn about the Danyl thing - on the one hand there’s an argument for not saying things that might cause ignorant people to vote differently, but on the other hand we can’t confront ignorance by simply being hush-hush about sexuality…

I think, having watched it a second time, that what partly happened was that Danyl was devastated by Louis comment about him being over confident / cocky / thinking he’d already won it, and was emotionally reacting to that while Dannii gave her feedback - so he couldn’t engage with it in the way she’d thought he would.

The Sun website actually refers to Stephen Gately’s husband today - not ‘partner’, not ‘civil partner’, but ‘husband’. Huge progress has been made even since I was a teenager… amazing. I don’t think it will cause Danyl problems at all.

Glad Candi Rain went but hello … John and Edward should be fronting kids TV, not signing out of tune on national primetime TV…!

I’ve not been watching so can’t give my predictions but I did click on the link and was shocked at Dannie’s comments!! Is she completely unaware that it was mostly the gay fans that kept Kylie going through the lean years???

Shame on her

Hang on…if Danyl is bisexual, why would he change the words one way or another? Hell, he could have swapped back and forth if he’d wanted to :-) It was just a silly comment by Dannii and she did her best to apologise.

Glad my choices are still in - let battle commence!

Stray - John and Edward. I am lost for words. If they win, I will never ever watch X Factor again. Ooooh my, look how serious I have been.

Carol - why would you not watch X Factor? Really, why? :)

Tam - let the battle commence…

I want to change my prediction to Joe, Stacey and Jamie Afro (Rachel still the wild card, Dannii just needs to give her some decent songs!). I think. Danyl’s annoying me a bit.

I really like Olly and Jamie and Stacey now… can I change mine too, with Joe as wild card?

Stace to win though. Love her! x
