(Note to readers: There’s a chance for a handful of people to receive freebies from Appliances Online and all details can be found at the end of this post)
OK, so an update about my broken oven and my concern about how the turkey would be cooked this year (because clearly you’re all anxious and full of concern and probably haven’t slept since that blog post…)
As of today, I have a NEW oven. Hip, hip hooray! (It is currently in the middle of my kitchen and waiting for an electrician to do things to it to make it come to life (as if by magic))
For those who like to know these things, the oven came via Appliances Online who are the UK’s largest appliance retailer, so we’re talking ovens, fridge freezers, washing machines and cookers.
I would also like to add that my new (shiny) oven was delivered at 7:20am this morning and I was wearing my new birthday nightie, slippers and dressing gown, which didn’t at all phase the rather nice delivery man.
But, I hear you cry, why are you blatantly and unapologetically plugging Appliances Online on your blog?
Well, after my oven died and I was stressing about how I’d (you read that as G, yes?) cook the Christmas turkey to anyone who’d listen, I read this post by the fabulous notSupermum about Appliances Online giving out surprises to a few lucky folk. I checked out their website and prices and liked what I saw. I left a comment on notSupermum’s post and a lovely man called Ben really DID contact me with a delicious offer. He also said yes to my ridiculously cheeky request to run a competition for my blog readers to grab a festive freebie. (Thank you Ben and thank you notSupermum!)
So, all you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post (I’d advise you to link to your blog, leave an email address or mention your twitter name in the comment) and a HANDFUL of people really WILL be contacted and receive freebies from Appliances Online. This is a UK only competition.

Something like small print: It’s not a gimmick, it’s not an empty marketing ploy - this is simply a company utilising social media with class, generosity and Christmas spirit. I really can’t praise Appliances Online enough, especially as they DIDN’T ASK ME to blog about any of the things I am now going to blog about (if that makes sense!). They are simply spreading goodwill around blogs and on twitter. (I think they might actually be based in the North Pole and be a group of elves, but I don’t think I’m supposed to blog that either!). I’m utterly impressed with this company and want to help spread the word about them. So here’s some top points that I especially liked about Appliances Online:
- 7 day, next day delivery when you order before 7pm .
- Free delivery if you’re willing to wait a couple of days (although to be fair next day delivery is only £10 anyway).
- 10 day free returns guarantee – the statutory minimum is 7 days and the consumer has to pay for the return. With Appliances Online it’s 10 days and they come to pick the appliance up for free.
- Text messages to confirm delivery slot.
- All packaging is taken away with the delivery men.
- Price match promise – if you find one of their major competitors (there’s a list here) selling an appliance for more than a pound cheaper they’ll match their price.
If all of this tickles your Christmas fancy, then be sure to leave a comment. Good good luck to those who do! (Ho, ho, ho!)

Glad you’re going to be able to cook your turkey! It’s very generous of Appliances Online to make this offer. You (and hopefully THEY!) can contact me on my blog http://www.competitiongrapevine.blogspot.com or via twitter @compergrapevine
Well done Caroline! I was looking forward to the barbeque turkey update but that challenge can wait for another day hey! Merry Christmas! Natalie

Wow, they sound excellent, Caroline. Just bookmarked the website.

Oh, I wonder if the elves could find me a dishwasher to save hubby’s hands at Christmas (I cook, he washes) Our dishwasher broke when J was ill and we can’t afford to replace it now
Glad to hear you’ll be able to cook the turkey !! And thanks for the giveaway !
Wow! I’m impressed with the speed and efficiency of these people. Whenever I’ve needed things desperately - washing machine was the most critical one - I’ve been told ‘fetch it from store or wait 2/3 days’. Unfortunately they don’t sound likely to do TVs (they’re not really appliances are they. Will check the site) - aged parents’ TV is at last gasp but they keep hanging on while it’s still going. Soon it will just go ‘pfuff’ and a replacement be ‘needed’ the same day! - at least it won’t go ‘bang’ as Lego Luke Skywalker does a double flip and rams his light saber into the ground which is what happened to our TV a few Christmases ago.
Have fun with your new oven. If you or these generous people need to contact me, I’m @marymayf
Hmm, always like to hear about companies who really deliver…..I need the whole works (washing machine is chewing socks and makes everything smell funny; fridge farts; freezer freezes too efficiently - ie icicles on the outside!). So will bookmark and browse - for when the money fairy decides to be generous again….) But, in the meantime, any freebies very gratefully received!
Me? On Twitter as @exmoorjane owner of FAR too many blogs but main one is http://exmoorjane.blogspot.com (Diary of a Desperate Exmoor Woman). Hapless journalist, lost in the further recesses of her own (decaying) mind.
Sounds like a win / win situation to me
Turkey back on the menu and a good buying experiance from Appliances Direct. Have fun and a merry christmas x @poodle666
So glad they came to your rescue and saved the day so you can cook your turkey
How nice of them to do this. You can contact me on twitter @ali991
I totally understand the panic when an appliance gives up the ghost at an inopportune moment. A few years ago, our oven just stopped working a couple of days before Christmas. It decided that it would be a good idea to cut the gas immediately, every time we lit it.
It was too late to arrange for a repair or a replacement, so we fell upon the help of family; my mum agreed that we could cook our turkey, pork and gammon in her oven on Christmas eve. The plan then was to heat up portions for each meal in our microwave as and when we required it. Problem (kind of) solved, and disaster averted, or so we thought.
Christmas eve came, and after a couple of trips to and from my parents home, all our cooked meat had been brought home. We settled down for the evening and had cause to use our microwave. As we sat in the living room, we heard a loud ‘pop’ sound coming from the kitchen. I raced in there to be confronted by the most awful sickly smell. The microwave too had blown.
We managed by using a steamer to heat our meat until the shops opened after Christmas, and then organized a more permanent remedy to our woes. I must admit though, the thought of something like that happening again has filled me with dread every Christmas since then.
I included my email address in the comment form, but in case I need to include it in the comment text too, it’s [email protected]
Whoo hoo for good service and Christmas Day turkey!
My blog is http://www.highheelsandbookdeals.blogspot.com, I’m on twitter as @writermels
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
Aw, season of goodwill most definitely! Cathy I sympathise with the deceased dishwasher situation, ours died in March and we can’t afford a new one - well I have a Bryan who washes them now and I dry. For a while I insisted that it was a positive thing telling all and sundry how it allowed us to have quality time together in the kitchen…now I’m not so sure, novelty has worn off!
Anyway, I digress as usual, thank you for the wonderful comp and thanks to Lovely Ben and notsupermum also. You can contact me via http://www.lovelytreez.com or on twitter @lovelytreez.
Happy Christmas one and all. xx
Three Million Cheers for Appliances Online and the lovely Ben (I’ve never met a nasty Ben come to think of it) and double hurrahs for your Christmas dinner! (I must confess I thought you’d be getting Eldest to have a go this year).
Wow, what an amzingly generous company, it’s a shame there aren’t more like them.
Thanks, Caroline and Appliances Online!
How fabulous.
The year before last, our oven died on Christmas Day, and DK cooked everything, including the turkey, on the hob.
WOW, now that’s an offer not many will be able to refuse lol I’d usually say that this offer was too good to be true, but as you’re living proof, I can’t very well say that can I? lol I’ve had my cooker for almost 17 years now and although it’s still in full working order, it leaks gas so it’s windows open evey time it’s used….blummin cold in this weather I can tell ya! lol Many thanks to yourself and Appliances Online for this fantastic competition. Good Luck everyone
x
Oh, almost forgot……..i’m @sassyele on twitter, just look for the smiling clover! lol
Sounds remarkable! Good on them. I can be contacted via http://www.brianclegg.net or on Twitter @brianclegg
My mum’s oven broke on the 15th December last year and this year her washing machine has broke.
Good thing you have a new cooker, and if they’re delivering at that time in the morning they should expect you to be in your PJ’s really.
Also it is unnecessary to say 7:20am in the morning. That is all.
I think I said 7:20am ‘this morning’, not ‘in the morning’ but yes, I should have said ‘today’. I’ll consider myself told off. Thanks.
Good to hear that your Christmas Lunch has been saved. I hadn’t heard of Appliances Online prior to your blog but based on your glowing recommendation I plan to search them out, Typically all the appliances are at death’s door at the same time. Every time I use the washing machine I worry that this could be the last! Thanks to both you and Appliances Online for a terrific competition. I can be contacted on [email protected]. Any freebies would be much appreciated
It’s all been said but had to get in with a chance ;o)) @LiverpoolLady will find me … fingers crossed xx
How do you cook a Turkey on the hob?!?
Anyway, please enter me in this most Christmassy of competitions, cheers.

that’s with ‘at’ and ‘dot’ added in - they were mysteriously removed!
I don’t like to clean my dirty linen in public (though don’t have much choice currently as our washing machine is broken) but could I just say that Mrs Shouty is thinking of becoming ex-Mrs Shouty (see here http://www.shoutydad.com/2010/12/theres-something-you-need-to-know.html) partly because our house especially the kitchen is so depressing and as I earn only about thruppence a month she blames me for our inability to replace the knackered electric oven so if Appliances Online wants to help me keep the woman I love my twitter name is ShoutyDad. Cheers.
We have a fridge freezer being delivered on Monday by Appliances Online. It’s not the first appliance we have bought from them and I can highly recommend them as a company, just in case anyone was having second thoughts, but from the amount of comments it appears that is unlikely!
What an amazing giveaway though.
ooooh please enter me
I’ve not yet bought anything from Appliances Online - but then I’ve not been able to buy much of anything lately! I am the proud owner of a busted washer dryer though, so if the wonderful people/elves at Appliances Online/The North Pole wanted to contact me about that, I’d be contactable either as @cheekychicken24 on Twitter or at my blog http://cheekydaze.blogspot.com
I already follow Appliances Online on Twitter, and have seen some of the fantastic giveaways they’ve done already this year! They’ll definitely be my first port of call when I’m able to shop for a new washer!
Our oven is not working properly and we would love to win a new one…please, please, pretty please with sugar on top?
How do you cook a Turkey on the hob?!? Anyway, please enter me in this most Christmassy of competitions, cheers.
Great giveaway - I’d not heard of them before.
