The Great Panto Review 2009

by Caroline Smailes on October 8, 2009

Over the weekend, lovely Keris told me (in 140 characters via Twitter) about blogger Linda Jones.

Linda is responsible for the rather genius idea of UK parent bloggers joining forces and raising cash for a children’s cancer charity. The idea is that bloggers contact theatres in England, Scotland and Wales requesting review tickets for a pantomime. Then, the hope is that tickets will be given and that the blogger will write a review of the pantomime (word of mouth is everything!) on their personal blog and on Have a Lovely Time (obviously Twitter, Facebook, Stumble etc will come into this too). The blogger will then donate the price of a ticket to NACCPO. So the blogger gets to see a pantomime, the pantomime gets to be blogged about and the charity gets a donation (see, genius!).

Clearly, I was keen to get involved and contacted my local theatre, The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, to tell them about the cause. They were extremely quick (and lovely) to respond with review tickets for all of my family to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs just before Christmas. We’re all very excited (Ken Dodd is the voice of the mirror!).

Linda’s original post can be read here. I do feel that this is fantastic way to raise funds for a charity and to support your local pantomime. If you are a parent blogger and would like to know more about the Great Panto Review 2009, do contact editor Linda Jones( [email protected] )

Hey Caroline thank you for such a lovely mention of what we are up to. I just read out the “genius” bit to my partner and he sort of shrugged and said “oh”. But wow, thank you!

I hope you have a great time at your panto, love a bit of Ken Dodd, ooh Missus, what a lovely day etc…

There is a JustGiving page for anyone who wants to support NACCPO and help, regardless of whether they can get to a panto, and that is here:

I’m working on getting a blog badge sorted and a Twitter hashtag but am hoping to be more on the ball about this soon.

Thanks also for linking to my blog at Got Your Hands Full, unfortunately for me, my latest post is about me showing my bum in a coffee shop so will add something else sharpish. :)
