The Clumsies Make A Mess Of The Big Show - Sorrel Anderson

by Caroline Smailes on February 2, 2011

To celebrate the launch of ‘The Clumsies Make A Mess Of The Big Show’, I’ve got a copy to give away.

“Shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny prize 2010 – The Clumsies are back in their third and most hilarious book yet! Full of the surreal invention and sparkling wit we’ve come to expect, this latest instalment will have everyone checking under their desks for talking mice.

Howard’s evil boss Mr Bullerton has decided to put on a Big Show at work – and he wants Howard to sing!

Trouble is, Howard’s singing is worse than awful… and Mr Bullerton knows it. Now Howard faces an epic humiliation. Can the Clumsies help by turning Mr Bullerton’s concert into total chaos?

Silly question.”

I really and truly hope that you’re aware of The Clumsies, if you aren’t then you’re in for a treat! This is the third book in the series that’s all about two talkative (and very quirky) mice who live in an office. The mice try their hardest to help their human friend Howard, but always end up making it worse!

The Clumsies are charming and warm and Littlest really enjoyed these books. You cannot read these stories aloud without doing a whole range of silly voices (whether or not your child wants you to do silly voices!). Varied fonts and fabulous illustrations add to the whole reading experience and this series is a definite for boys and girls who are 7+.

And, to partner the release of this third book in the series, the clever folk at HarperCollins have built a competition site where parents and children can enter their pet into a talent show. The winner will receive a number of prizes including signed books, book vouchers, vouchers to treat their pet and a Clumsies party with food and supplies provided. All people have to do is send video files, video links (Youtube) or pictures to [email protected] and they’ll upload them to the site. A winner will be picked by the author.

You can check out the entries so far here and I do like ‘Merlin’ (if you listen carefully, you can hear rather ‘beautiful’ singing in the background). Do let me know if you enter! I’m a little bit tempted to enter this photo of Bumble in mittens. Littlest asked her nanny to knit mittens to stop his paws from being so cold. Is being cute a talent?

But, for now, I’ve a copy of ‘The Clumsies Make A Mess Of The Big Show’ by Sorrel Anderson to give away. Simply leave a ‘please pick me’ comment by 3pm (GMT) February 4, then I’ll pop all names in a mug and ask a small child to select a winner. This competition is open to all.
