I had another arrival, just before the kittens came to live in our house.
The postman delivered a single copy of Like Bees to Honey. I sat stoking it, flicking pages, shaking. I remember ages ago, just after all the rubbish stuff with (the old) The Friday Project had happened, my blog friend Paul left a comment: Believe and wishes will come true.
And they did.
The book is everything that I hoped it’d be. The fonts, the feel, the look, the white space. I’ve blogged every single stage (in the ‘my books’ category) of the production process and now my book is actually here, ready, waiting.
Eldest is reading it. It’s the first novel of mine that he’s been allowed to read and there are a few bits that are slightly dodgy, but he’s twelve now and he’s explained to me that he’s heard far worse at school (oh my!). His questions have been intelligent and when we’re talking about the characters and the story I’m trying really hard not to think about others reading it, soon, very soon. (breathe Caroline, breathe)
The kittens were unexpected. We thought it’d be at least another week before they came to live in our house, but instead they arrived on the same day as my single copy of Like Bees to Honey. Dates and coincidences, again.
It may, therefore, be of no surprise that the kittens now have such perfect names.
Meet Bee and Bumble.*
*thanks to my fabulous mentee Cathy for the name suggestions.

fantastic!
I had a beautiful cat with a lovely nature when I was growing up and he was called Bumble! They’re really cute, but why are they in a cage?
What can I say, my heart is a-flutter on your behalf… Can’t wait to touch it… does it smell good? I always sniff books…
And I am sure that the little darlings will provide many years of entertainment and some stress too (yeah but… it’s worth it!).
It looks beautiful! What does it smell like? The cover looks like it could be very tactile too.
Also, kittens = the cuteness!
Also, the names Bee and Bumble = purrfect.
Also, the book! Yay! and again, a huge congrats!

Laura - they’re in an extra large cage (which is ridiculously big) to sleep only (which explains all the kitten wee on my floor), because they’re only 5 weeks old and we have a puppy. It’s about keeping them safe, while they’re still so very young (their mother had rejected them). They are very much loved, played with and tiny.
Steph - it smells utterly delicious!
Liz - it smells like THE BEST SMELL in the world

All the best as usual from me, CS. Can’t wait for Bees…
you’re not allowed, no one is
Oh phew! I’m too much of a bleeding heart liberal sometimes. Kittens and puppies? Your house must be great fun! How could anything reject offspring like that??
The house is chaos and it’s all one big juggling act but I woulsn’t have it any other way. 3 children, 1 cat, 2 kittens, 1 puppy and 1 fish
We’re trying to find a balance between kitten milk and tiny amounts of food for the kittens, as well as letting them explore and feel safe. They are still so tiny and believe me, as soon as it’s safe for that cage to be away, it will be.
Wonderful names! And how lovely to get your book and the kittens on the same day.
They are beautiful, and the book is beautiful. The coincidence of dates was obviously meant to be.
fairyhedgehog - thank you

The kittens ARE SO CUTE! Oh, I remember when my baby Mave was that tiny. She’s now 14 this year. Seeing those pictures makes me want another kitten! Bee and Bumble are perfect names and they will forever be a reminder of what you accomplished with Like Bees To Honey.
I REALLY wish I didn’t have to wait another month to read my copy of Like Bees To Honey…which has been pre-ordered for so long now. Sigh. I guess I’ll just have to be patient. I suck at patient though! LOL
Wooot!
What a beautiful enchanting coincidence. Congratulations on all fronts! (Hugs)Indigo
P.S. Love the names.
I’m so glad you all liked my name suggestions. But what else could they be with that timing ?
Congrats!!
Jamieson Wolf- you always make me smile! Not long now

How serendipitous (always wanted to use that word and thanks to you, I can!!) and what gorgeous names. We’ve only had goldfish so far who met an untimely end so are a bit hesitant about what pet to get next… Good times for you all. xx
Such a fab word! We have a goldfish too! I clearly have an inability to say no to pets… but meal time in my house is beginning to firghten me a little. Must. Say. No. To. More. Pets…
