Digital Outlook asked me to look at PictureBox Player, a rather fabulous service which enables you to watch a range of movies online or through web-enabled devices.
In basic terms, PictureBox allows the viewer to access 28 movies each month (and those movies can be viewed as many times as the viewer wishes). Every week 7 movies are replaced, so there’s a continuous movement of films (the current available films can be found here). I especially like that one PictureBox Player subscription allows you to register up to 5 different devices (as I feel this says a lot about the company’s ethos) and that the cost of that subscription is a mere £4.99 a month.
I guess some people might complain that the films aren’t the latest, most up to date releases, but I’d scoff at them. A lot of the films I’ve seen clips for in the past, quite fancied watching and then forgotten about them. We don’t have Sky+, so these aren’t films that I’ve had a chance to view on TV and there’s something rather ace about having access to so many films, whenever I like, for such a low cost.
And for that first (all important!) movie choice, Littlest and I went for the SpongeBob Squarepants Movie. I know it’s been out for years, but Littlest had never seen it and I must admit that I’d sit through that film many a time if only to see the ‘riding the Hoff’ scene (enough said?). I’ve been streaming the films onto my iPad and I can’t fault the streaming quality, which is a relief, as this kind of service can be ruined with a constant pausing as the films buffer.
So, for now, I’m off to tackle the children into their homework (yes, they’ve had a week off and yes they should have done it sooner, but…), then later this afternoon I’m thinking popcorn and The Robber Bride, possibly in the sunshine. Perfect.
