For those who don’t know, Public Lending Right (PLR) ensures that authors receive payment for the loans of their books by public libraries in the UK. Authors register their books, payment is made annually and the ‘Rate Per Loan’ has now increased for the first time in three years to 6.29 pence per library loan. So, all you soon-to-be and almost-published writers, do remember to register as soon as you enter your year of publication and have an ISBN.

Thanks for that tip *registers*
My Dad said that it’s really worth registering….he’s met loads of people who have bought his books after taking one out from the library!!

UK authors can now also register with the Irish PLR for the first time. Easiest way to get paid is through the ALCS. I don’t know how it will compare yet - Irish PLR is yet to put out its results for 2009 - but every little helps!
Thanks Caroline, I’ve just followed the link and registered and can’t wait to see how much cash arrives!

Somewhere over the rainbow, P L R…
ALMOST worth asking all our friends to take out our books every week ; )
I was very happy with my payment, even though I spent it in Tescos the day after…
PS Jane sent her love back! Was a V fruitful discussion.
good looking out
I can’t wait to be able to register. One day.
The year of publication eh? Hmmm….

Carol - your dad is a wise man
Brian Clegg - they can indeed, but adding additional books with Irish PLR involves printing out forms and sending them. I hope they change this soon, but clearly that’s just be being lazy!
Anna May - good luck! Every penny counts (or something like that).
Nik Perring - ha! But now I have an ear worm…
fiona robyn - it is indeed and the more books, the quicker it all adds up. I knew Jane would be mega helpful. She’s wise!
Precious Williams - thank you.
Debs carr - believe and it’ll happen. It is the way of the blogs…
Jon M J- know anyone who has their debut out this year? hmmmm
xxx
Err sorry about that
(Had to look up what ear words means and I must say it’s rather a fine phrase)
