“There is little in the way of relief in this harrowing first novel, but Smailes' sensitivity towards her subjects – and the poetry of her writing – carry the story.” Financial Times.
'Black Boxes is bursting with creative ideas, beautiful language, and unforgettable characters. You may need to be a little bit brave to read it - but if you take the plunge, you'll be very glad you did.'

I never saw it…
oh honey, you very much need to. Did you see any of his films? x
I love the theme tune so much …
it’s got my name in it
I feel as tho part of my childhood has died! Ferris Beullers Day Off, Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Wierd Science - far too many classic films to name. RIP
I feel exactly the same and felt I needed to post something on here. Pretty and Pink will always be one of my top 5 films. He leaves such a legacy and has influenced so many lives - that makes him a champ in my eyes.
