I have a jar, it sits on my desk. When a small moment makes me smile, I write it down on a piece of paper. I’ve managed to do this all year. I’ve written down every single moment of happy, I’ve folded each into a tight secret and then dropped it into my jar. These are moments that I’d have forgotten, they are moments that would have been swallowed up by the negatives, by the stresses of life.
This year, my jar is full. I’ve bought a larger jar for next year. My daughter spent yesterday decorating the jar, she made a label that says ‘good things’, it has a rainbow curving over the ‘g’.
Goodbye 2013, thank you for all those tiny moments that made me feel truly alive, that made me smile, that made the difficult times easier to manage. Tonight, I’ll open my jar and remember all those little moments again.
And, thank you to each of you who have commented on a blog post, read my novels, emailed me secrets, sent a tweet, said hello on Facebook, written reviews, popped along to events… you’ll possibly never realise just how much your support has meant to me this year.
I’ve no idea what to expect in 2014, but I’ve got a jar to fill. I’m leaving this year with hope.

This is such a lovely idea. I want to do this too…I will use any old jar this year, and next year I will treat myself to a decorated jar.
