Book News: 99 Reasons Why

by Caroline Smailes on September 17, 2011

And finally I can tell you… I’ve written an ebook with 11 different endings:

99 chapters. 11 different endings.

A unique ebook project from the author of Like Bees to Honey.

Twenty-two year old, eBay-obsessed Kate has no need to venture outside. Instead she has an important job working for her Uncle Phil. She spies on The Kevin Keegan Day Nursery across the road from her bedroom window, keeping notes on the comings and goings and reporting them all back to her uncle.

That’s why Kate’s watching Andy Douglas, the young man with a spider’s web tattoo that covers his bald head. As Kate observes him dropping off his little girl at the nursery each morning, her hatred for him escalates. And it’s not long before Kate asks her mum to steal Andy Douglas’ little girl for her. Plans are made.

But then, quite unexpectedly, Kate flashes her breasts out her bedroom window at Andy. And that’s why it soon becomes certain that nothing will ever be the same again…

99 Reasons Why is a unique read. There is no one ending to Kate’s story, instead there are eleven alternatives. Each is different, and each exposes a little more of Kate’s utterly wonky world.

More SOON…

It’s set in the same area as ‘In Search of Adam’, in fact the other estate, the one over the Coast Road. So a few clues and nods back to characters who were in there. Hope you like it! x

Cool!

11 different endings? I’m imagining my old adventure novels, with chapters ending in ‘if this, go to page x. If this, go to page y’. An ebook with links would certainly add a dimensionality and sense of immersion.

Almost, but not quite… hopefully! Ooooh… am I building intrigue? ;) x

Yes! Yes you are. I’m very curious as to why 1) her mum agrees to steal the baby; 2) she flashes her breasts. I want this, NOW. :D

Mark,

You write it and I’ll convert it to eBook… we’ll get Caroline to act as editor and write a nice blurb…

Caroline, a lot of people (including and especially me) have been anxiously waiting for what you’re going to pull out of the bag, and it sounds like another gem. Personally, I’m a massive supporter of women flashing their breasts at strangers. I remember every time that it’s happened to me in great detail and can readily recall the weather that day, what I was wearing, and who I was with. It’s a gift.

We both know you’re my biggest fan (and no, I don’t mean you’re a fatty!). I flash often, it’s a fact x
