Beyond Blue

by Caroline Smailes on April 9, 2010

Remember when I posted a while back about how a charity won’t get its money because the publisher who printed Disraeli Avenue disappeared with it all?

I didn’t name the publisher for legal reasons, but I am now.

Bluechrome (Anthony Delgrado) made me professional promises that the charity One in Four would receive all of the profit from the sales of Disraeli Avenue. I trusted him, but he disappeared with the money. That’s ‘old news’ now, but still something I (personally) need to one day rectify because of the charity involvement.

The thing is, lots of other authors trusted him too and they lost royalties and book deals as a result. It’s all very wrong on too many levels. I understand that businesses are falling apart in the current economic climate, but I still feel that people should face up to their responsibilities and not run and hide away. The hiding is unforgivable.

Anyway, some of Bluechrome’s fabulous former authors are getting together for an event. Their aim is to show what can happen with a publisher and how it is, though devastating at the time, also possible to move on. The event, ‘Beyond Blue’ will be at St. Benet Church (EC4V 4ER) on Thursday 22 April, at 6.30pm for 7.00pm. There will be about 10 or 11 readings, mostly poetry but some prose as well. Entrance is £4 with proceeds going to support the Cold Weather Shelter. (More details can be found HERE)

I can’t be there, but do wish all of Bluechrome’s former authors lots of luck in the future.

Appalling… That is such a fantastic charity too.

I work in charity fundraising and you may be surprised at how often things like this happen…

Let me know if you need some more work done on this. Still free of course.

Well done for these authors getting together and holding an event. It’s good to know that people can move on from something so disappointing.

I lost a book deal with Bluechrome and wish I could be there for this event…but I will be there in spirit.

I think the important thing to remember if that anything can happen. It is how we proceed after something awful like this happens and Beyond Blue is a perfect example.

I think it’s fabulous that all of the Bluechrome Authors are getting together to make something wonderful out of something terrible.

I will be with all of you in spirit. Hugs and Cheers to all!
